Celtic defender Cameron Carter Vickers could return ahead of CL clash v Atalanta

Celtic will travel to Bergamo to face Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday night (23 October).

The Bhoys suffered a humiliating 7-1 defeat against Borussia Dortmund away from home in their last Champions League game, and they will be looking to bounce back.

Celtic have already won one game in this competition, but their away form needs to improve. They have spent heavily in the summer window, and this is another major test for them to show everyone that they are ready to compete in European games this time.

Ahead of the game, the Hoops have received a “huge boost” in terms of injury issues.

Celtic defender Cameron Carter Vickers set to return to the squad

Carter-Vickers has been out injured for a long time, and Celtic have badly missed him. The 26-year-old defender last featured in the 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava.

According to a report from the Daily Record, the Bhoys defender has returned to training ahead of the Atalanta clash. He had been back on the grass ahead of the Aberdeen clash, but Rodgers decided to give him more rest.

While the game against the Dons came sooner to him, he is likely to fly to Italy on Tuesday afternoon to face Europa League winners Atalanta.

His return is a massive boost for Celtic

A positive result against Atalanta will boost Celtic’s chances of qualifying from the league for the first time in a decade.

The Bhoys will already be without Greg Taylor for this fixture, so Carter-Vickers’s return will come as a major boost. The only question will be whether he is fit enough to last the entire game.

In case the Hoops boss decide against starting with Carter-Vickers (can use him from the bench), Celtic will continue with the pairing of Liam Scales and Auston Trusty at the heart of defence.
