Former Chelsea and Aston Villa striker Chris Sutton has tipped Liverpool to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.
The Reds strengthened their title credentials with a narrow 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Anfield last week, solidifying their spot at the Premier League summit.
Former Chelsea man Mohamed Salah opened the scoring at Anfield from the spot following a reckless tackle on Curtis Jones by Levi Colwill.
Nicolas Jackson got Chelsea back on level terms just three minutes after the restart, but the reprieve lasted only a few minutes as Jones restored Liverpool’s lead and sealed maximum points.
The Reds have now won their last four Premier League games in a row, and Sutton believes they have what it takes to challenge for the ultimate prize.
Speaking on BBC Radio, Sutton said: “I think if you look under Klopp – once they really got going – they were always confident in the squad that they had and that they could push for major honours, and I don’t think anything has necessarily changed other than the manager.
“They’ve started strongly, but they aren’t going to start shouting their mouths off at this stage of the season and say that they are in a title race.
“They will just go week-to-week, keep winning games, heads down and working hard and improving to see where they are at the turn of the year.
“They are in a title race, and I don’t think that that is in any doubt, and they’ve been mightily impressive under the new manager.
Liverpool turn their attention to the Champions League on Wednesday evening when they take on RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena.
Arne Slot’s side will be keen to extend their winning streak to eight games across all competitions and maintain their perfect start to the European campaign.
They’ve claimed comfortable wins against AC Milan and Bologna and will aim to replicate those performances against their Bundesliga opponents on Wednesday.
