Crystal Palace want to sign Millwall teenager Romain Esse

Crystal Palace could be looking to bolster their wing position either in January or next summer.

Michael Olise left Selhurst Park to join Bayern Munich during the summer window, and this is one area the Eagles could look to strengthen in the future.

According to a report from the Sunday Mirror (page 69), Crystal Palace have earmarked Millwall teenage sensation Romain Esse as their prime target.

Palace have signed several players from the Championship in recent years who have gone on to become stars for the club, and they have now identified the Championship “gem” as a potential option.

Eagles sporting director Dougie Freedman is a “big fan” of the teenage winger. Freedman has watched the youngster twice this season, and he has been left heavily impressed by what he saw.

Esse has progressed through the youth ranks at Millwall. He made his senior debut in the summer of 2022 and has made 50 appearances for the club in all competitions.

This season, he has made nine starts in the Championship already and has two goals to his name. Capable of playing on both the right and left wing, the youngster has undoubtedly got a lot of potential, and Freedman feels he would be perfect at Selhurst Park.

Palace have benefitted from signing top talents from the Championship in the past. Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton joined the club from QPR and Blackburn Rovers, and Freedman wants to repeat a similar strategy once again.

The Eagles signed Ismaila Sarr this summer from Marseille, but he has not been able to make a big impact. The 26-year-old has managed just one start in the Premier League this season, and a further six appearances have come from the bench.
