India recorded their lowest-ever Test total at home as they were bowled out for just 46 by New Zealand on Thursday.
The Rohit Sharma-led side won the toss and decided to bat first at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The entire first day was washed out by rain but the following day saw a spectacular collapse from the hosts as the whole team were dismissed for the third-lowest total in their Test history.
Matt Henry and Will O’Rourke wreaked havoc with the new ball as five of the Indian batters – Virat Kohli, Safaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin – departed without scoring a single run.
Henry finished with figures 5-15 while O’Rourke recorded 4-22 to put New Zealand in a dominating position.
Only Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal managed to reach double figures.
Pant hit two boundaries to score 20 runs off 49 balls, while Jaiswal made 13 off 63 deliveries.
They now need an excellent bowling performance to make a comeback in the match against New Zealand.
India suffered their lowest Test total in 2020 when Australia bowled them out for just 36 in Adelaide.
Their previous lowest score at home was 75 all out against West Indies in 1987 in Delhi.
