Jamie Carragher makes bold Liverpool transfer claim on Sky Sports

Simon Jordan insists Liverpool defender Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid next summer

Liverpool have made an excellent start to the 2024-25 season under manager Arne Slot.

The Reds failed to reclaim their top spot from Manchester City after playing out a 2-2 draw at Arsenal on Sunday.

However, the Merseyside giants will be happy with a point from the home of their title rivals.

The Gunners twice led and were pegged back each time, with the two sides ultimately sharing the spoils of the game.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was once again one of the standout performers for Arne Slot’s side in the away encounter. He made the difference with a quality ball in the buildup to Mohamed Salah’s second-half goal.

However, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher fears the 26-year-old may end up leaving his hometown club to join Real Madrid

The famous pundit believes the right-back’s ambition of winning the Ballon d’Or would be more achievable with the Spanish giants than Liverpool.

Carragher said: “My first thoughts when I read that was you’re not going to win that as a right-back for Liverpool. Ballon d’Or winners usually play for Real Madrid or Barcelona – that’s where the best players in the world go.

“When asked about his ambitions, whether he would pick the Champions League, World Cup or Ballon d’Or, he chose the Ballon d’Or, which I thought was a bit strange or bizarre.

“You’d think he’d pick the World Cup or Champions League as it’s a team game. But yeah, he’s got massive ambitions – and why not? You’ve only got one career. He’s a unique full-back, absolutely amazing.

“I think Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah will actually stay. But the longer it goes on, I think he’ll move to Real Madrid. There will be a lot of frustration with supporters if this carries on and he doesn’t sign a contract”.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been one of the best players for Liverpool and the club’s supporters will be devastated if he ends up leaving.

He has made 322 appearances across all competitions so far, with 19 goals and 83 assists to his name.

He has come under criticism for his defensive qualities but has seen improvement in that area this season.

The Reds must do everything to tie him down to a new contract, with his current deal expiring next summer.
