BBC pundit Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown was seriously impressed by the performance of Liverpool loanee Ben Doak during Middlesbrough’s 1-0 win away at West Bromwich Albion.
Former Tottenham Hotspur target Hayden Hackney scored in the 73rd minute to help Boro claim maximum points, but Doak’s performance was also eye-catching.
Doak joined Boro on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window and is already looking like a shrewd acquisition by the Championship side.
Doak has featured four times for Boro this season, although he has only started two games, with manager Michael Carrick keen to gradually integrate him into the squad.
The 18-year-old joined Liverpool’s youth ranks from Celtic in the summer of 2022 and has quickly established himself as one of the most promising prospects in the academy.
The move to Boro is his first spell away from the Merseyside giants since joining the club, and he delivered a strong performance against West Brom on Tuesday.
His display caught the attention of BBC pundit Brown, and the West Brom all-time highest goalscorer touted Doak as ‘one to look out for’.
“That Ben Doak, on loan from Liverpool, looks a serious player,” Brown said on BBC Radio.
“Look out for that little lollipop trick he does, one foot over the other and then he crosses.
“He is one to look out for, one to watch, recently called up to the Scotland squad too.”
Doak’s only goal of the season so far came in Boro’s 2-0 win over Stoke City at the Riverside Stadium. He’ll be keen to play a crucial role in the club’s promotion bid.
Middlesbrough have started the 2024/25 Championship season in fine form, picking up 14 points from eight games and only trail pacesetters Sunderland by four points.
After narrowly missing out on a spot in the play-offs last term, Carrick and his troops are determined to go one better this season, and Doak could play a crucial role in their lofty ambitions.
