West Ham United slumped to a 4-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday in the Premier League.
The Hammers made an impressive start to the away game as Mohammed Kudus fired the opener with 18 minutes on the clock.
But it didn’t take long for Spurs to restore parity as Dejan Kulusevski’s pinpoint shot went in off the post despite Alphonse Areola getting a hand on it.
The second-half turned out to be completely one-sided as the Lilywhites fired in three goals within 15 minutes, with Yves Bissouma and Son Heung-min scoring in between Areola’s own goal.
West Ham’s day got even worse as Kudus was sent off for pushing both Micky van de Ven and Pape Matar Sarr.
Most of the players produced a disappointing performance yesterday, but Lucas Paqueta was particularly poor.
The 27-year-old lasted for an hour before Julen Lopetegui replaced him with Edson Alvarez.
He had just 30 touches and completed 14 of his 19 passes (74 percent).
The Brazilian won three of his 12 duels and lost possession on nine occasions. He also committed two fouls and was dribbled past once.
The attacking midfielder wasn’t also very convincing with his performance before the international break when they beat Ipswich Town 4-1 at the London Stadium.
Paqueta has been an important player for West Ham since joining the club in 2022, scoring 15 goals and registering 14 assists in 94 total appearances.
However, his recent performances haven’t been up to the par and it wouldn’t be wrong for Lopetegui to drop him to the bench for the next match.
Carlos Soler, who has joined the Hammers on a season-long loan this summer, could be a perfect replacement for the Brazilian.
The 27-year-old has featured in five top-flight appearances so far, but all of them have come off the bench.
