Luis Diaz dazzles for Liverpool in 3-2 win v Brighton

Liverpool secured yet another victory under Arne Slot on Wednesday night, winning 3-2 against Brighton in the Carabao Cup.

With that win, the Reds have moved into the quarter-final of this competition, where they will face Southampton.

Slot made eight changes to the side against the Seagulls, where he gave opportunities to fringe players like Jarrell Quansah, Joe Gomez and Wataru Endo.

Cody Gakpo scored twice, while Luis Diaz added another as the Reds moved to the next round. While Gakpo is receiving a lot of praise for his performance, Diaz was equally impressive for the Reds during the game.

Diaz has been in great form for the Reds this season, and he has been brilliant once again. When Brighton pulled one back in the second half, courtesy of an error from Quansah, the momentum could have swung in Brighton’s favour.

However, Diaz took the game further away from them by scoring the crucial third goal on the night.

Luis Diaz stats v Brighton

The Colombian was heavily involved in the game, as he managed 53 touches. He made 27 accurate passes out of 30 attempted, managing 90% accuracy. He also managed one key pass during the game and registered three shots.

The best feature of Diaz’s game is that he puts in a lot of defensive shifts as well. He made two tackles during the game and was simply outstanding on the night.

The 27-year-old winger has started in seven Premier League games so far, scoring five goals and providing two assists.

Liverpool are missing the likes of Diogo Jota, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa at the moment, and they are short of options upfront. Slot will need Diaz to maintain this impressive form before the international break.

The Reds will face Brighton, Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa in their next three games in all competitions before the November international break.
