Manchester United star Harry Maguire left 'frustrated' after suffering injury blow

Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire is set to spend the next four weeks on the sidelines, according to The Mirror.

The 31-year-old started the season on United’s bench but has slowly recaptured his spot in Erik ten Hag’s starting line-up.

He started last weekend’s goalless draw against Aston Villa alongside club stalwart Jonny Evans but was left visibly frustrated after being forced off with a calf problem at half time.

The England international has since been assessed, and scans have revealed a slight tear in his calf, which will keep him on the sidelines for at least a month.

Maguire confirmed his latest setback on his social media account but vowed to return to the fold stronger after a recent string of impressive performances for the Red Devils.

“Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend,” Maguire said. “Will be a few weeks on the sideline for me, but I’ll come back stronger.”

Maguire’s setback is a blow for the defender but even more so for United manager Ten Hag, who is facing a battle to save his job after yet another awful start to the Premier League season.

Magure has started just five of his eight appearances across all competitions this season but opened his goalscoring account with a crucial goal that earned ten-men United claim a point against FC Porto in the Champions League.

Ten Hag’s preferred centre-back pairing of Lisandro Martinez and summer signing Matthijs de Ligt have struggled to impress, and Ten Hag was reportedly willing to give Maguire a run of games.

However, he’ll have to make do without the Englishman, who is also a doubt for England’s next two games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.

Maguire’s latest setback means he’ll miss United’s next four Premier League outings against Brentford, West Ham United, newly promoted Leicester City and a resurgent Chelsea side.

The former Leicester star will also sit out a reunion with former United manager Jose Mourinho when Ten Hag’s troops visit Fenerbahce in the Europa League later this month.
