Newcastle United will look to move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin again when the winter transfer window opens in January, according to talkSPORT.
The Magpies wanted the 27-year-old during the summer transfer window, with manager Eddie Howe a big fan of the England international.
However, Newcastle baulked at Everton’s £40 million asking price but will move for him again when the transfer window reopens when he could be available for a cheaper fee.
Calvert-Lewin is out of contract at the keen of the season and the Toffees are expected to sell him as he has shown no signs or willingness to sign an extension.
Newcastle will look to tempt Everton into doing business in January as the Goodison Park club could prefer to cash in on their striker instead of losing him for free at the end of 2024-25.
Calvert-Lewin has bagged 84 goals and 20 assists in 297 appearances as a striker, with two goals and an assist to his name in six games this term, and Newcastle could do with such an experienced striker within their ranks.
They could lose Callum Wilson in January, with both Fulham and Brentford keen on recruiting his services, and his Everton counterpart could prove to be a solid replacement.
However, whether the Blues will be ready to lose such a key player during a campaign they are fighting relegation remains to be seen.
They could also have new owners in the coming months, and retaining the services of the Englishman could be a top priority for them post-takeover.
Newcastle will attempt to move for him or another striker in January should they lose Wilson, and Howe would hope he gets his hands on attacking reinforcements for the second half of the campaign.
