Aston Villa claimed an unbelievable 1-0 win over Bayern Munich at Villa Park last night, upsetting the European giants in their UEFA Champions League clash.
The Villains put in terrific performances all across the pitch as they prevented the Bavarian side from finding openings.
Manager Unai Emery deserves massive plaudits for rolling out a tactical change that worked to a tee. The Spaniard opted for a back three against Bayern, and it paid dividends.
Ezri Konsa, Diego Carlos, and Pau Torres put in masterful defensive displays in central defence, while Jaden Philogene thrived in the makeshift right-wing-back role and as a left-winger later on.
Substitute Jhon Duran won the game in the second half with a deft finish after catching Manuel Neuer off his line.
Villa still needed their goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to rescue them several times and help secure the victory. The Argentine shot-stopper made magnificent saves to prevent Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry, and Harry Kane from scoring.
This was Bayern’s first group stage loss in the Champions League since September 2017, when they lost 3-0 to Paris Saint-Germain, then coached by Emery.
Prince William was in attendance to watch the exhilarating match-up and wore a grin from ear to ear as he saw his favourite club clinch victory over the six-time UCL winners.
The 42-year-old Prince of Wales was spotted celebrating after Durans’s winner and also after the full-time whistle.

William is a massive Villa fan and attends their games every once in a while. He claimed he supported the club because all his other mates in school chose to follow Manchester United and Chelsea.
William was in a social media snap shared by Villa earlier in the evening, posing alongside several former legends from the 1982 European Cup-winning team and the Champions League trophy to mark the club’s first home tie in the competition since 1983.
