Rangers boost as FCSB keen to cash in on midfielder Darius Olaru

Rangers and their manager Philippe Clement are big admirers of FC Steaua Bucuresti midfielder captain Darius Olaru, and the Romanian club will look to cash in on him next summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old was unavailable for selection due to suspension when Rangers defeated FCSB 4-0 last Thursday in their third game of the group phase of the 2024-25 Europa League campaign, but he remains on the radar of the Scottish Premiership club.

However, the Bears may need top dollar to sign Olaru as his current contract runs until 2028 and he will not be available for cheap next summer.

He has ten goals in 19 appearances this term after ending last season with 15 goals in 43 games, and Rangers could do with such a goalscoring midfielder in the middle of the park going forward.

They have found themselves six points behind Celtic and Aberdeen in the league table after nine games, and a defeat at the hands of the Dons at Pittodrie Stadium tonight could spell the end of their title ambitions.

Clement could do with better players as the current squad does not look capable of giving the Hoops a run for their money.

Unfortunately for the Rangers boss, strengthening his team may need to wait until next summer given their current financial state.

Landing Olaru will help improve their fortunes on the pitch, but they are not the only ones interested in recruiting the services of the Romanian international star.

The Bears have suffered a £17.2 million loss according to their latest annual accounts published today, and failure to qualify for the Champions League next term will be a big blow financially.

They will need to get the money that comes with qualifying for the elite European competition to have a chance of landing players capable of improving their team, and the onus is on Clement to get the job done.
