Manchester United are working on a deal to bring Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford as their next manager.
The Red Devils sacked Erik ten Hag on Monday following a disastrous run of form. United have picked up only one win in their last eight games in all competitions and have made their worst-ever start in the Premier League.
The club have decided that fresh ideas are needed, and they are moving swiftly to appoint Amorim.
Sporting Lisbon have confirmed on Tuesday (29 October) that the Red Devils will pay the €10 million release clause to get Amorim.
The Red Devils have also started negotiating with Amorim’s backroom staff, as it is expected that he will bring his own trusted people with him.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the club for tonight’s EFL Cup game against Leicester City, but he is also not expected to remain after Amorim is appointed.
After Sporting earned a 3-0 win against Nacional, Amorim addressed the press, where he spoke about his future.
The 39-year-old said that if he leaves, the players and the fans will be angry. He hasn’t made any decision yet on his future, but at the same time, he hinted that a move to Man Utd is imminent (Record, page 1).
He said: “What I control is my decision going forward and I’ll be here to say what I’m going to do. There is a club interested, made an offer, there is an intention to pay a clause… We’ll see what happens in the next few days. It is my decision and I will explain everything.”
The Portuguese boss has already verbally agreed to join United, and the Red Devils are also confident that he will be on the dugout for the Premier League clash against Chelsea.
The young manager has done a terrific job at Sporting, and he favours an attacking style 3-5-2 system. United fans will hope that he can bring the same winning mentality at Old Trafford and take the club back to where they belonged.
