Stephen Warnock raves about ‘unbelievable’ James Tarkowski in Everton v Newcastle

Everton are steadily climbing up the ladder after earning a crucial point against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday (5 October) at Goodison Park.

The Toffees have jumped to 16th in the table after securing a 0-0 draw against Newcastle today.

James Tarkowski didn’t enjoy a great game overall, as he conceded a penalty following his rugby-style foul on Sandro Tonali inside the box. Jordan Pickford saved him from embarrassment after he saved the penalty from Anthony Gordon.

However, he redeemed himself with a fine piece of defending in the second half, which impressed Stephen Warnock a lot. The popular pundit described his block on Tonali as “unbelievable.”

He said, as quoted by BBC Sport: “It’s an unbelievable block because Tarkowski reads exactly what Joelinton wants to do and gets out to Tonali.”

Newcastle piled up the pressure in the second half and came close to scoring on a few occasions. Tarkowski threw himself on the ground and made a heroic block of Tonali’s close-range effort after Joelinton’s back post header.

Everton will be really pleased with the result

After a poor start to the season, Everton have now picked up four points from their past two games. They head into the international break on a positive note, and Sean Dyche will be hoping that his side can maintain the momentum.

Newcastle, who are chasing a spot in the Champions League, will be frustrated with the result, but the Toffees should be happy with the result and the overall performance as well.

Dyche will hope to get back Jarrad Branthwaite and Vitaly Mykolenko after the break, while the likes of Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson aren’t far away from returning to the first team.

The defence has been a major concern for the Toffees this season, but it is going to improve once Dyche gets back his key defenders back from injuries.
