Tottenham will face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup clash on Wednesday night.
Ahead of the match, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that attacking midfielder Wilson Odobert has picked up a “serious” injury, and the club is waiting for more information.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder joined Spurs in the summer window for a fee of around £25 million, but it has been a bit-part start for him.
He returned as a substitute against AZ Alkmaar last Thursday after missing more than a month with a hamstring injury. However, it appears that he has picked up a major injury this week, which is a big setback for the club.
Odobert was not in the squad for last Sunday’s 1-0 loss against Crystal Palace, and Postecoglou has confirmed now that the youngster is likely to be out for a longer spell on the sidelines.
The Spurs boss said, as quoted by The Standard: “The only other one missing out which is a bit of a disappointment is Wilson, who has had a setback during the week and it seems like it is a serious one so we’re just waiting for more information.”
Tottenham will look to bounce back to winning ways
Odobert has made five appearances for Spurs since joining from Burnley, and his injury set-backs are a major worry.
Postecoglou has also confirmed that Son Heung-Min will miss the clash against Man City, but he is confident that the skipper will be available for the weekend game.
This is a big game for Spurs. Postecoglou has stressed the importance of winning silverware at the club, and this is a big opportunity for them to beat a strong opponent and move into the next round.
Spurs were below par in the 1-0 loss against Crystal Palace, their second defeat in last three Premier League games.
A strong performance and a win will give them huge confidence, although it won’t be easy against Pep Guardiola’s side.
