Tottenham star Micky van de Ven escaping a red card for fouling Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr on Sunday did not go unnoticed at Arsenal

Arteta wants a more hostile atmosphere from Arsenal fans at the Emirates

It did not go unnoticed at Arsenal this week that Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky van de Ven was not sent off for his foul on Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr on Sunday, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners were without French defender William Saliba against Liverpool on Sunday after he was shown a red card against Bournemouth following a VAR review.

The France international was initially handed a yellow card by referee Robert Jones for pulling down Cherries striker Evanilson, but he was later sent off after VAR Jarred Gillett was consulted.

Spurs star pulled Sarr back with the Eagles forward through on goal, but he was only yellow carded despite the foul being reviewed by VAR, and Arsenal have taken note.

The Gunners compiled a video of several clips showing similar incidents that only resulted in yellow cards to support their case as they pondered a possible appeal against the sending-off of Saliba.

However, they opted against submitting an official appeal as they were convinced that the likelihood of it failing was very high.

Arsenal believe the officials have not been fair towards them at times, and seeing Van de Ven escape a red card for the same offence Saliba was sent off for would not have gone down well with them.

They will not hesitate to refer to the incident involving the Tottenham defender and Palace star if they are faced with something similar going forward.

Arsenal eventually lost 2-0 to Bournemouth, conceding both goals after the Frenchman was sent off, while his unavailability against Liverpool saw them play out a 2-2 draw.

It can be argued that both results could have been different had Saliba remained on the pitch against the Cherries, and the dropped points could have a huge say on their title chances at the end of 2024-25.

They are currently third in the table after nine games, five points behind league leaders Manchester City, and they could do with more luck as far as officiating goes.
