Liverpool secured a 2-0 win at Anfield in the Champions League against Bologna on Wednesday night.
Mohamed Salah scored one goal and provided an assist for Alexis MacAllister as the Reds picked up back-to-wins in the Champions League.
Salah, 32, has been in imperious form this season. He has already been involved in 11 goals (six goals and five assists) this season in competitions, although he has yet to hit the superlative level that we all associate with him.
Jason Cundy has been left stunned by Salah’s contract situation at Liverpool.
He said on talkSPORT: “It’s a tricky one because I can’t believe we are having this conversation.
“There’s Liverpool fans, that can’t quite believe we’ve got to this stage. We’re in October. He will be free to talk to another club outside of England on the first of January.
“The club is stolen. That I am finding utterly bizarre mess.”
The Egyptian king is Liverpool’s record goalscorer in the Premier League, and he is also Africa’s leading goalscorer in the Champions League. However, will he stay at Anfield beyond the end of the season?
Salah has a contract at Liverpool until the end of the season and the Reds are yet to offer him a new deal at the club. He has recently stated that he hasn’t had any communication with the club over a new deal, which means the club could let him go for free.
Liverpool must solve Mo Salah’s contract situation
Salah is not the only player who is in the final year of his contract at Liverpool. Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also in a similar situation.
While Liverpool are likely to offer an improved contract to Trent, who is a local boy, the same cannot be said with full confidence for Salah and Van Dijk.
Both the players have maintained an enviable level of fitness and consistency at the highest level, but the club may not take the risk of offering them another lucrative deal.
Having said that, Liverpool can still make it work and offer them contracts on reduced terms to lower the wage bill. I
Arne Slot appears to have been very calm about the situation. Are Liverpool waiting for the right time to offer them new deals? Have they made the decision yet to move on without them?
Are Liverpool waiting to see if any potential club (Saudi Pro League) come up with a big money offer for Salah? We don’t know yet. It would be a blow to lose either of them during the middle of the season, and hopefully a resolution will be reached, one way or another.
In other Liverpool news, national media drools over one Reds player after what he did v Bologna.
