Tottenham Hotspur forward Wilson Odobert has vowed to come back stronger after a frustrating start to his career at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Odobert joined Spurs from Burnley last summer in a deal worth an initial £24.6 million plus an additional £4.9m in performance-related add-ons.
However, he has struggled to make any meaningful impact, making just four appearances across all competitions for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
The 19-year-old sensation had a bright debut against Everton. It was enough to retain his spot in the starting line-up against Newcastle United before settling for a cameo off the bench against Arsenal last month.
Odobert has been out with a hamstring injury since Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Championship side Coventry City in the third round of the EFL Cup back in September.
He was named in the starting line-up but was forced off in the 18th minute with an injury that derailed his integration into Postecoglou’s squad.
However, Odobert has sent a message of hope to the Tottenham fans who are yet to see what their new star is fully capable of.
At a club event as local sixth-form students got a look at careers in the world of sport and technology at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday, the Frenchman spoke about his injury.
He said (via Football London): “I’m disappointed about this injury, but I’m working hard now to come back and play again. I just need to keep pushing and keep working.”
Postecoglou had initially opened up about his plans to integrate Odobert into the squad.
After the win against Coventry, the Australian said: “Wilson doesn’t look good, we are still waiting for it to settle down and get all the information, but he will definitely be out for the next period.”
Odobert is among a number of Tottenham attackers that are making their way back to full fitness, with the club hopeful that captain Son Heung-min and Richarlison will return to the fold after this international break.
