Wolverhampton Wanderers are considering making a move for Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin following their poor start to 2024-25 under boss Gary O’Neil, according to the Sun.
Wolves are at the bottom of the Premier League table after six defeats and a draw in their opening seven games of the new campaign, and they face Manchester City after the October international break.
Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace are next after that, and while the Molineux club want to give O’Neil time to see how he performs during the more favourable run of fixtures that follows, Thelin remains firmly on their radar.
The 46-year-old Swede has hit the ground running at the Scottish Premiership club since joining them in the summer, with the Dons joint-top of the league table with Celtic after winning all of their opening seven games.
Aberdeen have also won their other six games across other competitions, and Wolves have been alerted to their brilliance under Thelin.
He won the Superettan in 2015 with Jonkopings Sodra IF before moving to the Swedish top-flight to manage Elfsborg for six years.
The Wolves target only recently moved to the United Kingdom but he could now be on his way to the Premier League should O’Neil lose his job.
Former West Ham United manager David Moyes has also been suggested as a potential replacement for the under-fire Wolves boss, and while his huge Premier League experience may tip the balance in his favour, whether he would be willing to sign-up to a relegation scrap remains to be seen.
O’Neil replaced Julen Lopetegui in August 2023 on a three-year deal, and he helped the Old Gold finish 14th in the table at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
However, things have not gone as expected this term and he could pay for it with his job in the coming weeks if the results do not change.
