100% ground duels, 1 assist: Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi dazzles for England in Nations League win

Newcastle see third bid for Marc Guehi rejected by Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have endured a disastrous start to the season, winning just one of their 11 games to be in the relegation zone.

The Eagles were likely to struggle in the English top-flight after losing Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen last summer.

However, nobody expected them to be in the drop zone after collecting only seven points from 11 matches.

Palace supporters currently don’t have much to cheer about, but they must have been thrilled by watching Marc Guehi in action for England on Sunday.

The 24-year-old produced a solid display at the Wembley Stadium, helping the Three Lions to an emphatic 5-0 win over the Republic of Ireland in the Nations League.

Guehi registered an assist when he flicked a Noni Madueke’s corner into the path of Conor Gallagher, who tapped home their third.

The Palace star partnered Kyle Walker in central defence and played for the entire 90 minutes.

Guehi had 76 touches in the match and completed 67 of his 72 passes.

He lost the ball on five occasions but won 100% of his ground duels.

The young defender also made a key pass and registered a tackle and a clearance.

Guehi appeared close to leaving Palace last summer after Newcastle United lodged a huge £70 million bid for his signature.

However, despite the massive offer, the South Londoners refused to sell the highly-rated centre-back.

The England international, who has contract at Selhurst Park until 2026, has started all 11 Premier League matches this campaign, with two goals to his name.
