Newcastle United returned to winning ways in the Premier League with an excellent 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday.
The Magpies got off to a perfect start at St James’ Park as Alexander Isak put them in front in the 12th minute.
Anthony Gordon picked out Isak with a pinpoint cross and the Swedish striker made no mistake to nod home the opener.
Mikel Arteta tried to make a comeback by making changes in the second-half but Newcastle held out to seal a brilliant victory.
There were many encouraging performances from the hosts, especially from Isak and Lewis Hall.
However, Tino Livramento also deserved a lot of praise for his contribution in the huge victory.
The 21-year-old, who joined the club in 2023 for £40 million, produced a solid display in defence, winning 100% of his ground duels and 100% of his dribble attempts.
The right-back had 46 touches in the game and completed 18 of his 23 passes.
He lost possession on seven occasions but registered four tackles, two key passes and an interception.
Emil Krafth’s brilliant performance in the Carabao Cup suggested Eddie Howe may start the 30-year-old for Saturday’s Premier League match.
However, the English boss brought Livramento back into the team and the young full-back repaid the manager’s faith with an excellent display.
Newcastle were enduring a poor run of form and needed a big win to restore their confidence. They got that victory on Saturday against Arsenal and will now be in a buoyant mood ahead of their away fixture at Nottingham Forest.
