Manchester United are reportedly ready to swoop for Atalanta midfielder Ederson in January. According to Italian transfer expert Alfredo Pedulla, the Europa League champions have set a €60 million asking price for the highly-rated Brazilian.
The 25-year-old midfield powerhouse has impressed with his performances in Serie A, the Champions League, and the Europa League, catching the eye of several top European clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester United.
The Red Devils have also been tracking Ederson since last summer and are keen to bolster their midfield options.
With the futures of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen uncertain, United want to strengthen their midfield. Casemiro’s form has dipped since last season, and he is entering the twilight of his career.
The same goes for Eriksen, whose contract expires next summer. Ederson would adeptly replace both men. He broke out as a powerhouse destroyer but has evolved into a box-to-box force in the engine room following the departure of Teun Koopmeiners. He is complete.
Ederson’s strong suit is his impressive tackling. He can break up opposition attacks and disrupt their flow. His ability to win the ball back is crucial for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side. He would be a coup for Man United.
Atalanta are expected to demand a significant fee for Ederson, but United are prepared to meet the asking price. The Brazilian could form a formidable partnership with Kobbie Mainoo or Manuel Ugarte in Ruben Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 formation.
While a move for Ederson is unlikely to materialise in the upcoming January transfer window, United are expected to pursue the deal in the summer.
The Red Devils are confident that the Brazilian can add bite, grit, and thrust to their midfield and help them return to the top of English football.
