Burnley keeping tabs on Ruud van Nistelrooy after impressive stint as Manchester United interim manager

Burnley are interested in hiring the services of Ruud van Nistelrooy after his impressive stint as Manchester United interim manager, according to the Sun.

The Championship club had the Red Devils legend on their radar in the summer after Vincent Kompany left, but they were left with no choice but to go for Scott Parker after the Dutchman joined his old club as an assistant manager to Erik ten Hag.

Burnley are currently fourth in the Championship table after 15 league games, but they have won just two of their last seven games and are at the risk of missing out on automatic promotion if things do not change.

Parker is not under immediate pressure, but that could change if he fails to turn things around soon, and Van Nistelrooy has admirers at the Turf Moor club.

Man United won three and drew one of the four games the former striker oversaw after Ten Hag was sacked, which has seen his stocks rise.

Van Nistelrooy had to leave the Old Trafford club as new head coach Ruben Amorim came with his backroom staff and decided against retaining the Dutchman.

However, he could be set for a swift return to English football with Burnley keeping tabs on him.

They could come calling in the coming weeks or months if their promotion chances have not received any boost going forward.

Van Nistelrooy dreams of managing Man United one day, but he will not be against the idea of managing Burnley if he is offered the chance.

Taking them back to the Premier League will further see his curriculum vitae receive a much-needed boost, and Parker has to get his men firing on all cylinders again if he wants to retain his job.

Van Nistelrooy managed PSV Eindhoven for a year, leaving in May 2023 after winning the Dutch Cup and Dutch Super Cup, and he has proven that he has what it takes to work in the Premier League.
