Liverpool need to solve their goalkeeping problems next summer.
The Reds paid £25 million to sign Valencia and Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili back in August. However, as per the deal, the goalkeeper is currently plying his trade at Mestella and will move to Anfield next summer.
To be fair, Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes definitely had an idea in place when the club signed Mamardashvili.
The Reds have Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher as two fantastic goalkeepers, but one needs to go in the summer.
According to James Pearce of The Athletic, Kelleher is probably the most likely to be sold in the summer window.
Selling Kelleher for a profit would be incredible business for Liverpool
The 26-year-old is a product of the club’s academy, and he has done incredibly well in the past two seasons.
He is seen as a natural replacement for Alisson and has been outstanding for Liverpool under Arne Slot.
Kelleher saved a penalty from Kylian Mbappe against Real Madrid on Wednesday in the Champions League, and he will start against Manchester City on Sunday at Anfield.
He will enter the final year of his contract next summer, and Liverpool can sell him at a high price. Kelleher will not have any shortage of admirers, and significant profit from his sale would represent a smart business.
Slot has recently made it clear that Kelleher will drop to the bench when Alisson returns.
The Republic of Ireland international wants to play regular football, and despite his outstanding form, he knows that’s unlikely to happen at Anfield.
He wanted to leave in the previous two seasons, but Liverpool did not get the price they wanted for him. However, next summer, it could be a different situation.
Alisson, 32, is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
He has said many times that he wants to stay at Liverpool. He has a contract until 2026, with the option of an extra 12 months.
Goalkeepers usually have a long career, and it makes sense for Liverpool to keep Alisson, especially if he keeps rejecting offers from Saudi Pro League clubs.
