Celtic defender Alistair Johnston is reportedly set to sign a new deal at Parkhead.
The 26-year-old has become a key player under Brendan Rodgers, and the Bhoys have been trying to tie him down on a new long-term deal.
According to a report from the Daily Record (back page), the right-back is close to signing a new contract at Celtic.
The Canadian defender has a contract at Celtic Park until 2027. Celtic have offered him a significant five-figure a week to convince him that he is a valuable asset to the club.
The Hoops were already in talks with Johnston for a while and now the report suggests that the player’s representative is in Scotland to finalise the paperwork.
Alistair Johnston – key player for Celtic
Johnston is keen to remain at Parkhead, and Celtic are confident that the right-back will soon sign the agreement.
Ange Postecoglou signed him from Montreal in 2022, and he has not put a foot wrong since. He maintained his impressive form under Rodgers, firing four goals and four assists in all competitions this term.
Johnston was excellent in midweek against RB Leipzig in the Champions League as Celtic won 3-1. He provided the assist for the third goal and made significant contributions overall.
Sorting out the contracts of other key players will be a priority for Rodgers. For instance, Greg Taylor is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, and as of now, the Hoops have failed to reach an agreement with him.
The 27-year-old is a regular player under Rodgers, and the club should look to tie him down on a long contract as well.
Nicolas Kuhn was sensational against Leipzig in midweek, and he took his goal tally to nine goals this season. He also provided ten assists in just 16 appearances this term.
Several clubs in the Premier League are showing keen interest in Kuhn but Celtic are under no pressure to sell him.
