Crystal Palace could be busy in the January transfer window, and several new faces could arrive at Selhurst Park as the club battle for Premier League survival.
The Eagles find themselves in the relegation zone following their defeat against Fulham last week.
Palace have picked up just one win in their opening 11 Premier League games, and Oliver Glasner has received criticism from pundits for failing to organise his troops properly.
Despite the poor form, Glasner retains the backing of the Palace’s hierarchy. The January window is crucial, and Palace should look to bolster their forward department, including a new striker.
Jean Philippe-Mateta has badly struggled this season and has failed to recapture his last season’s form. He is yet to sign a new contract at Selhurst Park, and doubts remain over his future as he approaches the final 18 months of his deal.
Eddie Nketiah joined Palace in the summer from Arsenal, but he has equally struggled with form and fitness. He has yet to score or provide an assist in seven league games, and it appears that Glasner hasn’t found a solution to use him properly.
The Eagles have scored only eight goals in the Premier League, which is the second lowest in the division, and it is daylight clear where reinforcement is needed.
Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson could be available
Earlier this month, The Sun reported that Palace are one of the sides showing keen interest in Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson.
The 32-year-old has yet to feature for the Magpies this season due to injuries. He is also behind Alexander Isak in the pecking order at St James’ Park.
Wilson is open to leaving the club, while the Magpies are also willing to cash in on him in January.
He has a contract at the Tyneside club until next summer, and the January window presents a golden opportunity for Newcastle to sell him for a decent fee.
Should Palace look to sign Wilson?
While Palace have been heavily linked with Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel in recent weeks, it makes sense for them to go after an experienced striker who can make an instant impact.
Wilson is a highly experienced striker and has scored 140 goals in his club career. For Newcastle, he has scored 47 Premier League goals in 95 games, and Eddie Howe has hailed him as “incredible”.
The Magpies striker would prefer to join a club where he would get regular games, and Palace can definitely provide him with that opportunity.
He is approaching the end of his contract, and the Eagles should be able to sign him at a decent price.
