Crystal Palace have endured a dreadful start to the season under manager Oliver Glasner.
A single win from 12 Premier League matches means the Eagles are currently stuck in the relegation zone with eight points.
However, the recent 2-2 draw against Aston Villa must have been a little encouraging for Palace fans, as their team scored twice and defended superbly to earn a point.
There were many positive performances for the South Londoners in Saturday’s game, including Jean-Philippe Mateta who registered an assist and completed 100% of his dribble attempts.
However, the concern for fans at Selhurst Park is that Mateta could end up leaving the club, as he is yet to agree new terms despite his contract expiring in 2026.
According to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, Palace are eyeing a move for Reims star Oumar Diakite in case they lose the Frenchman.
Diakite has emerged as one of the best young prospects in Ligue 1. Despite being just 20, he has made 39 senior appearances for the Red and Whites, scoring nine goals and creating two assists.
The talented forward has also earned 21 caps for Ivory Coast, with five goals to his name.
He is contracted with Reims until 2028, but a huge offer could convince them to sell the player.
Palace will look to sign Diakite if Mateta ends up leaving the club.
The Eagles want to keep the 27-year-old, but they are unwilling to meet the player’s huge wage demands.
