Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro started on Friday night for Spain and helped La Roja win 2-1 against Denmark in the UEFA Nations League game.
In Dani Carvajal’s injury-related absence, the Spurs right-back was given a chance, and he has proved to be a reliable deputy.
Tottenham have been very inconsistent this season. They have lost three of their last five games in the Premier League and have slipped to 10th in the table.
Porro is a key player for Ange Postecoglou, and the Spaniard has been ever-present for Spurs this season, starting in all Premier League games.
Stats: How the Tottenham defender fared v Denmark
Porro lost the ball 22 times, but he was heavily involved in the game, making as many as 110 touches.
He was pretty solid at the back, as he made three tackles, two interceptions and one clearance and made one vital block.
The 25-year-old has won six out of 11 duels and created one big chance during the game.
He was successful in making three long passes but was very poor with his crossing, managing to find his own player only once in nine attempts.
Porro made one key pass and maintained 88% passing accuracy. It was a solid performance overall.
How the Spanish press reacted to Porro’s performance
Catalan-based newspaper Sport was impressed by his performance and gave him a 6/10 rating.
They wrote: “Good game from the Spanish right-back. With some problem to stop Isaksen at the end, he was right in attack placing good passes to Ayoze.”
Mundo Deportivo also had nice things to say about the Spurs full-back.
They wrote: “He put in a more than a remarkable performance to prove that. In the absence of Carvajal, he is more than capable of starting for Spain.”
AS notes that Porro has improved a lot at Spurs, where he has been brilliant in his attacking display.
They wrote: “In England he has greatly improved his offensive game, and in the defensive area he defends himself thanks to his great speed in recovering the position.
“When he arrived at the National Team nothing was easy because he came from behind, but he has overcome that bad moment and now he is a good replacement for Carvajal.”
