Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell has emerged as a January transfer window target for Italian giants Juventus, according to Tuttosport. They would like to take the Champions League winner on a six-month loan.
The 27-year-old is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and could leave the Blues for Serie A, where the Bianconeri are keen on his services.
Juventus have suffered a few injuries in their backline and need to reinforce in January, and left-back is one area they are particularly keen on. Sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has turned to the Chelsea man to provide solutions.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca immediately made it clear that Chilwell was not part of his plans for the season, opting to roll with £57 million signing Marc Cucurella and utility man Renato Veiga to cover the position.
Chilwell was chucked to the reserve team to force him to leave, but not many suitors came forward for his signature, wary of his salary. He earns £190k a week at Chelsea, but Juventus are willing to cover that salary. They hope he will reduce it to get a deal over the line, but the interest is genuine.
The former Leicester City man will likely jump at the chance to play regular football again. He has only made one appearance for Chelsea this season in the League Cup.
Chilwell has struggled with injury problems over the years. They have eaten away at his athleticism, which used to be his biggest asset. However, he is still a seasoned left-back with plenty to offer and can do a fantastic job for the Turin club.
Chelsea will be eager to get several players off their books, including Chilwell. They still have players like Charlie Webster, Bashir Humphreys, Djordje Petrovic, Cesare Casadei, David Datro Fofana, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Trevoh Chalobah, Raheem Sterling, Axel Disasi, and Kiernan Drewsbury-Hall on the roster.
