Liverpool are flying high in all competitions, and they look unbeatable at the moment.
It seems like Arne Slot can do no wrong, and the players he inherited from Jurgen Klopp have responded very well to his methods.
The Reds are five points clear over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table and have won all of their four games in the Champions League.
Liverpool have recorded the best defence in the Premier League, and the partnership of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate has blossomed under Slot.
It is unclear what the future holds for Van Dijk, who has a contract at Anfield until the end of the season. But Liverpool fans will be excited to find that the Reds have started discussions over a new deal for Konate.
James Pearce shares Ibrahima Konate contract update
The first priority for the Reds will be to secure contract extensions for Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
All of them will become free agents at the end of the season, and it would be catastrophic for the club to lose them for nothing.
The next priority is to get a new deal for Konate, who has a contract until 2026.
James Pearce of The Athletic reports that “talks are underway”, and he doesn’t see any major obstacle in this case. Konate is happy and settled in Liverpool.
Pearce wrote: “The only other priority is Ibrahima Konate, whose deal runs until 2026. Talks are underway and I don’t envisage any issues there.
“He’s happy and settled at Liverpool. He’s in the best form of his Anfield career and at 25, his best years are ahead of him.”
Konate has been brilliant for Liverpool this season
The French defender has started in ten Premier League games in 2024/25 for the Reds and has been part of the defence that kept five clean sheets.
He manages 1.2 tackles and 3.6 clearances and makes 2.9 ball recoveries per game. He has also scored one goal and has provided one assist.
The 25-year-old has won 82% of his aerial duels and only lost 5.6 possessions, which gives an indication that he has been performing at a high level this season and deserves a new contract.
