Manchester United players have concluded that former manager Erik ten Hag was responsible for a loss of eight points in the Premier League this season, according to the Sun.
While they have accepted responsibility for some of the woeful results after holding talks in private to review their performances so far, they also believe Ten Hag’s tactics and substitutions during some games made them drop eight points.
Man United are currently 14th in the Premier League table after picking up 11 points from nine games, but the players reckon they would have had 19 points had the Dutchman made the right decisions in some of the games they did not win.
It would have seen them move ahead of third-place Arsenal who have 18 points so far.
The decision of Ten Hag to, at times, leave some players out, take off those who were playing well at crucial parts in games, or instruct the team tactically in ways that they believe cost them games left them puzzled.
The Red Devils stars reckon those decisions were directly responsible for the equivalent of losing two games and picking up a point instead of a win in another.
Ten Hag was fired on Monday following a woeful start to the new season, and he has since been replaced with Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim, who is set to start work on November 11.
The players accepted that their performances against Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United were poor, but it appears they believe the defeats to Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool are solely the fault of their former boss.
They also dropped points against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, playing out goalless draws against both teams.
Man United are back in Premier League action tomorrow when they host Chelsea, and interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will hope they can get the job done and impress as they did in the 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
