Newcastle United returned to winning ways in the Premier League after picking up an enormous win against Arsenal on Saturday (2 November) at St James’ Park.
Alexander Isak scored the only goal of the match as the Magpies secured a 1-0 win against the Gunners.
Anthony Gordon whipped in a magnificent cross in the box for Isak to guide the header into the net, and the Swedish striker made no mistake.
Alan Shearer hailed the 25-year-old striker as one of the best in the Premier League, and the British press has been raving about him.
The Mail on Sunday (page 88) hailed him as “world-class”, adding that he has been the “stuff of nightmares” for Arsenal and is certainly a player who could have been a “dream signing” for the Gunners.
They added that he has bullied the Gunners, and the newspaper has given him an 8/10 rating for his superb display.
Newcastle United must show consistency
After a bright start to the season, Newcastle suffered a dip in form. They failed to win in their previous five league games and needed a strong performance like this.
Shearer rightly said that the goal reminded him of goals strikers used to score in the 90s. The delivery from Gordon was sensational, and Isak’s finish was equally delightful.
Arsenal could have rescued something from this game, but Declan Rice missed two great opportunities.
However, the Gunners didn’t create enough clear-cut chances, and Newcastle were the deserved winners.
The victory against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup must have given them huge confidence, and it’s time for Eddie Howe’s side to maintain some consistency.
Howe needs support from the Magpies board in the January window to bring in some quality players.
They will get a week’s rest ahead of another important Premier League clash at City Ground against Nottingham Forest before the international break.
