Newcastle United made a slow start to the season, winning just three of their opening nine Premier League matches.
However, the Magpies have hit a good run of form at a great time. They claimed a huge 1-0 victory over Arsenal at St James’ Park earlier this month, with Alexander Isak scoring the decisive goal.
Eddie Howe’s men followed that up with another superb performance against Nottingham Forest, comprehensively beating their league rivals 3-1 after second-half goals from Isak, Joelinton and Harvey Barnes.
Newcastle will look to continue their momentum when they return to action against West Ham United on Monday. But they will also keep an eye on the January transfer window, looking to add quality players and offload fringe players.
According to The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, Miguel Almiron is likely to leave the Tyneside club in January.
Argentine side River Plate are reportedly interested in hiring his services, but a transfer fee and wages are expected to be a stumbling block for a deal.
Hope wrote: “From what I hear, a so called ‘big sale’ is not needed for this accounting period – at least not yet – and it is more likely that smaller deals will suffice. Miguel Almiron would appear the most viable departure and there is interest from River Plate – the club he supported as a boy – but the fee and wages could well be a stumbling block”.
Almiron joined Newcastle in 2019 and has gone on to make 216 appearances across all competitions.
He was an important member of Howe’s team last season as he featured in 45 matches, with eight goal contributions to his name.
However, he has been struggling for game time this campaign, starting only once in the Premier League.
The Paraguayan has found himself behind Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy in the pecking order.
It is clear that he is not part of Howe’s future plans, and a January exit is best for him as well as the club.
