Celtic picked up their second win at Parkhead in the 2024/25 Champions League campaign after beating German side RB Leipzig 3-1 on Tuesday night.
The Bhoys came from behind to pick up all three points in the group stage game, with Nicolas Kuhn scoring two goals in the first half. Reo Hatate added another in the second half to seal a memorable win.
Celtic produced a dominant performance, and several key players stepped up during the night.
Alistair Johnston produced a top-quality performance, while Chris Sutton has hailed Auston Trusty as “phenomenal” for his superb display at the back.
Another Celtic player who really impressed on the night was skipper Callum McGregor. The 31-year-old experienced midfielder is the heartbeat of the side, and he is still capable of delivering masterclass performances for his team.
Over the years, he has mesmerised the fans and the pundits with his performances, and here again, on the big stage, he has delivered for his club.
What Pat Nevin said about Celtic skipper Callum McGregor
The Daily Record gave him an 8/10 rating for his top-drawer performance, but Pat Nevin feels that the Bhoys skipper deserves an even higher mark.
Nevin hailed him as “extraordinary”, saying he deserves a nine-and-a-half rating for his overall performance.
He said, as quoted by the Daily Record: “You give Nicolas Kuhn his moment but every player deserves their moment. They were all eights and nines.
“Nine-and-a-half from Callum McGregor, he was extraordinary.
“I’m not mildly surprised by this. If you want to know how to do closing down high up the pitch, get a video of that. You don’t do it any better. That’s world class.”
Callum McGregor was outstanding v Leipzig
McGregor managed 87 touches and successfully completed 77 out of 80 passes with an enviable 96% accuracy.
He won all of his four ground duels and also recorded 100% aerial duels. The influential midfielder only lost possession three times and made two tackles as well.
This has been arguably one of the best nights for Celtic in the Champions League in a long time.
The Bhoys will have to shift their focus on facing Kilmarnock away from home this weekend before the international break.
