New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has identified the players that do not fit into his plans going forward following his first training sessions this week, according to the Sun.
The Portuguese started work on Monday after replacing Erik ten Hag and could not believe the lack of speed and intensity he noticed from the Red Devils.
Amorim was constantly having to tell the players to pick up the pace, a theme which continued through the week, and the new Man United boss has wasted no time deciding who he wants out.
While there are a few top stars within the squad, fans and pundits have regularly agreed on one thing – most of the Man United players are not good enough for such a club.
To stay within the confines of the Profit and Sustainability Rules, the Old Trafford club have to sell before they can make quality recruitment going forward, and a squad overhaul could now be on the cards.
Ten Hag re-signed some of his former players and was given the freedom to splash the cash on signings, but that yielded nothing.
Amorim will work with sporting director Dan Ashworth during the subsequent transfer windows, but the deadwood must be moved on first, and the Portuguese would have known those not suitable to his style of play merely by watching Man United games prior to his arrival.
Most of the things he has seen in the training sessions so far will likely be a confirmation of what he had already known, and quite a number of exits are expected in January and at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
The 39-year-old will be desperate to see Man United return to the pinnacle of English football, and he knows there is plenty of work to be done for that to happen.
Sanctioning the much-needed exits will be the best place to start.
