Sean Longstaff will sign new deal at Newcastle next month

Newcastle United have had a mixed start to the 2024-25 season so far.

With four wins from 10 matches, the Magpies are currently sitting 11th in the Premier League.

Eddie Howe’s men were on a five-game winless run ahead of their big match against Arsenal at St James’ Park last weekend.

However, Newcastle ended their poor run by sealing an excellent 1-0 victory over the Gunners.

Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon were the standout performers for the hosts, but Sean Longstaff also deserved a lot of credit for producing a brilliant display.

The 27-year-old showed great energy in the middle of the park and won back possession in key areas.

However, the midfielder’s future at the club has been a source of speculation, with his current contract expiring in 2025.

The Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope is now reporting that Longstaff’s deal will be extended next month.

It is said the Magpies will activate the option to lengthen his contract to the summer of 2026.

However, his future at St James’ Park still remains uncertain, with the club yet to decide whether to reward him with a long-term deal or look to sell him next year in January or the summer.

Longstaff is an academy product of Newcastle who came through the youth ranks to make his competitive debut in 2018.

The 27-year-old has been an important player for the Tyneside club over the years. So far, he has made 194 appearances across all competitions, with 16 goals and 10 assists to his name.
