Sergio Reguilon to push for January Tottenham exit

Sergio Reguilon’s once-promising career has hit a roadblock. The 27-year-old full-back finds himself completely marginalised at Tottenham Hotspur under manager Ange Postecoglou.

According to Marca, the former Sevilla and Real Madrid full-back has been searching for a way out and will continue to look in the January transfer window.

Reguilon was linked with a move to Fenerbahce, led by Jose Mourinho, who signed the Spaniard while in charge of the north London outfit.

Fenerbahce left-back Jayden Oosterwolde is out for the season with an ACL injury. They need fresh options to reinvigorate their backline and could turn to the Spurs man. However, apart from a few links, nothing has materialised.

Reguilon’s recent footballing journey has been marked by inconsistency. After a brief stint at Atletico Madrid and a forgettable loan to Manchester United, he returned to Tottenham, impressing during a loan spell at Brentford last season, but his demands reportedly stopped the Bees from signing him permanently.

His resurgence was short-lived, as Postecoglou has completely overlooked him this season. The Australian coach reportedly doesn’t have the left-back in his plans and has ostracised him from the first team, opting for Destiny Udogie, Ben Davies, and Djed Spence as cover. He did not travel with the club for pre-season preparations.

The Spanish defender has not played a single minute for Tottenham this season, leading to speculation about a potential January exit. Despite his desire to fight for a place, his situation has become increasingly desperate.

“I know I can play for Tottenham. I am 27 years old and have too much football to live for,Reguilon said recently, expressing his frustration.

While there’s no indication of isolation within the Tottenham squad, Reguilon’s absence from matchday squads and his inclusion in training sessions only as a makeweight raises eyebrows. With his contract running until 2025, Tottenham may explore options to terminate the deal early to alleviate their wage burden.
