Some Manchester United players are calling new head coach Ruben Amorim Mourinho 2.0 after he blew them away with his energy, approach and confidence following his first training sessions with them on Monday, according to the Sun.
The Portuguese started his reign officially as the Red Devils boss earlier this week, and the players currently at Carrington have been very impressed, comparing him with the Special One.
Amorim told the Man United players he has seen in training so far that the talent in the squad is ‘unbelievable’, telling them they need to start playing as a team for things to work out following their struggles under former manager Erik ten Hag.
He worked with Luke Shaw, Casemiro, Marcus Rashford, Leny Yoro, Mason Mount, Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo, Antony and Jonny Evans during his first training sessions as they were not involved in action during the international break.
Some other players have arrived afterwards but Amorim is unlikely to get the amount of sessions he desires with the full Man United squad before his first game in charge against Ipswich Town on Sunday.
While the comparisons with Mourinho are inevitable due to the similarities between them, the 39-year-old has a different style of play and is a breath of fresh air.
Amorim had a week-long internship at Old Trafford and Carrington under Mourinho in 2018 and has since gone on to forge a path for himself as a manager, proving himself in the Portuguese top-flight league.
Man United have struggled to impress since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013, with David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ten Hag all failing to get the job done.
Amorim is the sixth permanent manager the Red Devils have appointed since then and he has plenty to do if he is to become the first manager since Ferguson to last beyond a third year at the Old Trafford club.
