Alan Shearer left impressed by Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix, he’s proving to be masterstroke signing – View

Ismaila Sarr bagged a brace to help Crystal Palace secure a 3-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, lifting the Eagles four points clear of the relegation zone.

However, it was not only Sarr’s finishing that grabbed attention. The standout defensive performance, particularly from Maxence Lacroix, did not go unnoticed.

Lacroix was imperious at the back for the Eagles, recording ten clearances and one tackle while blocking one shot. He won 50% of his duels and was not dribbled past.

The former Sochaux centre-back was also stellar on the ball, registering a 94% pass accuracy and completing three out of five long balls.

His commanding display earned high praise from Premier League legend Alan Shearer. The former Newcastle United striker said:What a signing he is proving to be! A commanding presence at the heart of Palace’s defence against Brighton’s dangerous attack.”

Lacroix is a masterstroke signing – View

Lacroix joined Palace this summer from VfL Wolfsburg for £18 million and has rapidly established himself as a key figure in Palace’s defensive set-up.

Palace fans immediately wanted to see the 24-year-old slot into the centre of a back three, allowing Marc Guehi to shift to the left with Trevoh Chalobah on the other side.

However, manager Oliver Glasner did not use this set-up until the Nottingham Forest match. Since then, Lacroix’s impact has been undeniable.

His blend of physicality and composure has helped solidify the Palace rearguard, which has become a central pillar in their impressive five-match unbeaten run.

He has adeptly replaced Joachim Andersen. Palace now boast one of the most organised backlines in the Premier League.

Lacroix’s leadership qualities are beginning to shine through. His signing was a shrewd move by Palace.

The club faithful are starting to view him as a masterstroke, with the 24-year-old firmly establishing himself as one of the brightest defensive talents in the English top flight.
