Chelsea were linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani yesterday. The Frenchman has fallen out of favour under manager Luis Enrique, and the club is open to selling him.
Unsurprisingly, news from France claimed the Blues would make a play for his signature. Chelsea had shown interest in his services before he signed for the Ligue 1 giants from Eintracht Frankfurt.
He also reiterated that the West Londoners have big confidence in Nicolas Jackson. The Senegalese centre-forward has shown massive improvement from last season but a section of fans still cannot wait for him to refine his killer instinct in front of goal.
Chelsea appear willing to ride it out with Jackson as the number nine, with Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu behind him in the pecking order.
Besides Kolo Muani, they have been linked to Liam Delap, who is turning heads at Ipswich Town. He has all the tools to become a top Premier League striker, but he is still seemingly behind Jackson in numbers and development.
Chelsea are also reluctant to block Jackson’s development by chucking a big-money signing ahead of him, hence the dilly-dallying over a swoop for another striker.
The more pressing matter for the Blues should be signing a world-class goalkeeper who doesn’t sink the club into trouble at every turn.
As good as Robert Sanchez has been over the past few games, his wayward clearance from the back went to Fulham and they scored from the resulting attack, beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in their last game.
Also, Chelsea need a defensive leader to coordinate this backline that has been all over the place all season. Fans will be excited by the links to AFC Bournemouth duo Dean Huijsen and Illya Zabarnyi.
