Disasi must never start another Chelsea game after ‘costly’ performance v Ipswich – View

Chelsea suffered a second successive defeat, losing to Ipswich Town at Portman Road Stadium yesterday. The Blues were rattled by Liam Delap, who never stopped charging at their brittle defence.

Delap won a penalty and converted it with aplomb, beating Filip Jorgensen between the sticks. It was not the best of starts for the Dane, who gave away the spot-kick.

Chelsea still managed to create chances and struck the post twice. However, it was Ipswich that doubled their lead. A silly giveaway from Axel Disasi allowed the Tractor Boys to pounce, and Delap set up former Chelsea attacker Omari Hutchinson, who arrowed in a shot after jinxing past two.

Enzo Maresca made five changes to the side that lost at home against Fulham in their last outing, but one stuck out like a sore thumb.

Disasi replaced Malo Gusto at right-back and delivered a horror-show performance, albeit in an unnatural position. The Frenchman drew the ire of the Chelsea fans and the national media with his poor outing.

Football London gave him a 4/10 rating (the lowest of any player) and had the following to say about his game, “Didn’t look comfortable. His one-on-one defending is not good enough at times. Made a costly error to allow Hutchinson to double Ipswich’s lead.”

Disasi has been a bundle of mistakes since joining the Blues from AS Monaco in the 2023 summer transfer window. He has been uninspiring in his natural centre-back position and disappointing at right-back, failing to read the game on multiple occasions

His constant giveaways should see him dropped to the bench permanently until the Blues can sell him off to another club. Napoli, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen, and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in his services, and Chelsea fans will be eager to see the back of the 26-year-old.

Chelsea have Gusto, Reece James, and Josh Acheampong fit enough to cover the right-back position, and Disasi should never start another game for the Blues.
