Everton to deal internally and privately with Neal Maupay’s social media post

Everton are aware of Neal Maupay’s recent social media post and will deal with the matter internally and privately, according to Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers.

The Frenchman is currently on loan at Olympique Marseille until the end of the season, and still has a contract with the Goodison Park club.

Maupay incensed Everton fans and the club on Sunday night after the 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to mock them.

He claimed he checks the score of the Toffees and smiles whenever he is having a bad day, telling a supporter they will be playing in the Championship next season.

It got the likes of Tony Bellew angry, and Everton have decided to take action.

Maupay took to X in August to aim a dig at the Blues after his move to Marseille was announced, posting a clip from the film The Shawshank Redemption, where actor Andy Dufresne celebrated his escape from prison by ripping off his shirt and screaming in elation in the rain.

The 28-year-old striker joined Everton from Brighton & Hove Albion in August 2022 on a three-year contract with an option of a further year, moving to Brentford in September 2023 on a season-long loan.

Maupay netted just one goal in 32 games with the Toffees but ended his loan spell with the Bees with eight goals in 31 games.

He has two goals in 12 appearances for the Ligue 1 club, who are currently second in the league table after 15 games and are hoping to secure a Champions League qualification spot ahead of next season.

The striker has played his last game for Everton and could seal a permanent move to Marseille at the end of the season.

The Merseyside club are currently 16th in the Premier League table after 18 games, with three points separating them from the relegation zone, and things have to improve significantly during the second half of the campaign if they are to survive the drop.
