‘I always expect goals’ – Chris Sutton predicts score of Brentford v Newcastle game

Newcastle United produced a fantastic performance on Wednesday to hold Liverpool to a thrilling 3-3 draw at St James’ Park.

Alexander Isak opened the scoring for the Magpies with a stunning strike, but Curtis Jones levelled the scores after the interval.

Newcastle restored their advantage through Anthony Gordon before Mohamed Salah struck twice to put the Reds on the brink of victory.

However, a late twist saw Fabian Schar squeeze home a 90th-minute goal to rescue a point for the hosts.

Manager Eddie Howe will look to build on that performance when they take on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.

BBC football pundit Chris Sutton was highly impressed with Newcastle’s display against the Premier League leaders, but he doesn’t think they are good enough to come away with maximum points from Brentford.

Sutton says the Bees’ home record has been the best in the English league this season, and he believes the two sides will play out a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

Writing in his column for BBC Sport, the 51-year-old said: “Brentford’s home record is incredible, and still the best in the Premier League this season.

“Newcastle were impressive against Liverpool in midweek but their challenge is to follow up that performance here, because they have been very up and down so far.

“This is a difficult one to call, but I always expect goals from the Bees when they are at home.

“In contrast, Newcastle have not been scoring consistently this season but they got three against the leaders and I think they will get a couple more here”.

Howe is unlikely to make many changes to the Newcastle team that played against Liverpool in midweek.

Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall, Schar and Dan Burn should keep their first-team berths in front of Nick Pope.

Gordon, Isak and Jacob Murphy are also nailed-on starters in attack, but there could be scope for some midfield changes as Howe may opt for Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff instead of Sandro Tonali and Joelinton.
