Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier targeted by Stade Rennais

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke recently suggested that he doesn’t expect the club to be involved in a busy transfer window.

The Whites are second in the Championship table, one point behind Sheffield United, and are one of the favourites to secure automatic promotion this season.

Farke is happy with the squad, and they probably do not need further reinforcement, although another attacking midfielder could be targeted.

According to a report from Jeunes Footeux, French club Stade Rennais are eyeing a move to sign Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier in the January transfer window.

Jorge Sampaoli is looking to bring in a new goalkeeper in January, and there is a possibility that Meslier could leave Elland Road.

The French outfit are also interested in signing PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper Walter Benitez.

Illan Meslier unlikely to leave Leeds United

The 24-year-old goalkeeper is a key player for Leeds and he has kept 11 clean sheets in 19 Championship matches so far.

He came under criticism from pundits after making a blunder against Sunderland, but apart from that, he has been fairly consistent for the Whites.

Considering his importance to the side and the position the club is in, Leeds cannot simply afford to part ways with their star goalkeeper.

In a long season, players are bound to make mistakes, and goalkeepers can have an off day. Meslier has grown into a top-quality player, and they should only consider selling him if the offer is too good to turn down.

Leeds, however, could offload a few players next month. Joe Gelhardt has become out-of-favour at Elland Road, and he has been linked with a move to Rangers.

Max Wober and Patrick Bamford have found game time hard to come by this season and could potentially leave as well.
