Leeds United are set to sign young Australian goalkeeper Robbie Cook, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist wrote on his Patreon that the Whites are committed to a three-year deal for the 17-year-old goalkeeper, who was also targeted by Manchester United and Sunderland.
Cook is a highly-rated young goalkeeper who plays for Perth Glory, and he will be on his way to joining Leeds shortly.
Nixon also suggests that the Whites are keen on Sporting Lisbon midfielder Dario Essegu, who has been loaned to Las Palmas in Spain.
Robin Cook – player for the future?
Leeds are second in the Championship and are one of the favourites for automatic promotion to the Premier League this season.
Daniel Farke will not mind signing a few players in January who can help them achieve their dreams.
Bolstering the forward department will be a priority, and the Whites have earmarked Aston Villa’s Louie Barry as a potential loan option.
Leeds are also looking to add depth and quality in their midfield areas in January, but they have enough cover in the goalkeeping department at the moment.
Ilan Meslier is the first-choice keeper at the club. Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais are interested in signing the French goalkeeper, but Leeds are unlikely to sell him during the middle of the season.
Cook is not the signing who will help the Leeds senior team right now, but he looks like a “top prospect” who will be looking to progress through the academy ranks.
Considering that Man Utd were interested in him, Leeds probably did enough to convince him to move to West Yorkshire.
It is also refreshing to see that Leeds are planning for the future ahead, and they are using their scouting network to great effect in finding top talents around the world.
While the focus will be on the thrilling promotion race this season, Leeds fans will be keeping a close eye on the youngster’s development at the same time.
