National media reacts to Auston Trusty’s display for Celtic v Dinamo Zagreb

Celtic extended their unbeaten run in the Champions League to four games after securing a 0-0 draw against Dinamo Zagreb.

The Hoops now accumulated nine points, and they need to win against Young Boys at Parkhead in their next game to put themselves in a strong position to qualify for the knock-out rounds.

A win against Zagreb would have guaranteed progress to the latter stages of the Champions League, but Celtic once again failed to win a game away from Parkhead.

The last time they won away from Celtic Park in this competition was seven years back, under Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic offered little going forward, but they were very solid at the back. Kasper Schmeichel was outstanding against Zagreb but there were other strong performers too.

Paulo Bernardo produced a strong performance in the middle of the park, while Auston Trusty was superb at the back.

The Daily Record gave Trusty an 8/10 rating for his “brave” display. They wrote: “Centre-back had to be alert to breaks on his side as Taylor moved in field and also made a brave block to get in the way of Pjaca drive.”

Auston Trusty becoming a key player for Celtic

Joe Hart was also impressed by Trusty’s performance last night.

Trusty joined Celtic from Sheffield United in the summer of 2024 for £5 million, and after initial struggles, he has now firmly established himself as a key player under Rodgers.

He won five headers and took 123 touches. He won eight duels, won three tackles, attempted two blocked shots and made three clearances, as per Sofascore.

Trusty also registered 95% passing accuracy to cap off a fantastic display for the Bhoys.

Despite their strong showing at the back, the only frustration remains that they couldn’t create enough clear-cut chances. Celtic enjoyed loads of possession, but there was a lack of direct threat upfront.

They had a real chance of winning the game on Tuesday night, but the draw was not a bad result either.
