Newcastle eyeing summer move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Newcastle United look to have turned a corner in recent weeks under manager Eddie Howe.

The Magpies have comfortably won their previous three Premier League matches against Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Aston Villa without conceding a single goal.

The recent positive results have lifted Newcastle to fifth in the league standings, with 29 points from 18 matches.

Howe will want to continue their momentum into the new year by adding a few fresh faces to his squad in the January transfer window.

But the club’s delicate PSR situation means they will need to sell before making any signings.

According to The Sun, Newcastle are interested in signing Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

But they are prepared to wait until the summer when they can get the 27-year-old on a free transfer.

It is said the Tyneside club are unwilling to pay a big fee next month, rather they will put all of their cash into a major contract offer to tempt the player to join them next summer.

The English footballer wants to stay in the Premier League, and has rejected approaches from foreign clubs.

Calvert-Lewin is highly rated for his strength, aerial dominance and pace. But his name is unlikely to excite many Newcastle fans as he has regressed badly in the last few years.

This season, he has started 16 Premier League matches but has scored only two goals and created an assist.

Calvert-Lewin has also become very injury prone, missing an incredible 267 days due to fitness issues in the last two seasons.
