Nils Koppen shares Rangers ‘unique setting’ plan for player trading

Rangers need to improve their player trading going forward, Nils Koppen has said in the AGM 2024 on Thursday.

The Gers have fallen way behind the Celtics in the Scottish Premiership, and the Ibrox faithful are worried about the direction in which the club is heading.

Koppen shares that player trading is one aspect the club needs to improve. He says that Rangers have done a great job in reducing the wage bill; the first team wage bill has been reduced from £41 million to £35 million.

Over the years, fans and pundits have voiced about Rangers’ poor business strategy in transfer windows.

Koppen has stressed the importance of signing young and dynamic players who are technical and robust.

He said, as quoted by the Daily Record: “We have to have a young dynamic balance to compete at all levels European and domestically.

“We need players who are technical and robust. This is a unique setting you won’t find anywhere else in Europe”

Rangers have put immense faith in Philippe Clement

Koppen is absolutely right. It is true that Rangers are not operating at the same financial level as Celtic, but the only way they can catch them is by making smart signings and getting into the Champions League.

The new Rangers technical director not only needs to slip out fringe players from Ibrox but also bring in quality young talents who can go on to become future stars.

Philippe Clement has made it clear in the AGM that the club will keep on working to sign good players in the summer transfer window.

Interim chairman John Gilligan has assured everyone that the Gers board will be reconfigured. Going forward, there will be both non-shareholders and non-executives on the board as well, which is a welcome change and an indication of diverse governance.

On the pitch, Rangers must look to maintain consistency, mainly in the Premiership, and must reach the next phase of the Europa League.
