West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui was under huge pressure after back-to-back losses to Arsenal and Leicester City.
However, the Spanish boss has significantly improved results for the Hammers in recent weeks to ease the pressure on himself.
Thursday’s 1-0 win over Southampton means West Ham have picked up eight points from their last four Premier League matches.
But despite the positive results, the Irons are still sitting 13th in the league standings.
With only a few days remaining before the January transfer window opens, Lopetegui will be hoping to add a few quality players to make a big comeback in the second-half of the season.
With Michail Antonio out for at least a year after a horror car crash, they look in desperate need of reinforcements in attack.
But midfield has also been a problem for West Ham, with both Lucas Paqueta and Carlos Soler failing to impress with their performances.
Club must act swiftly to land James McAtee
The East Londoners have a brilliant opportunity to add a quality attacking midfielder in Manchester City’s James McAtee.
A recent report from The Telegraph suggests the 22-year-old wants to leave the Citizens next month after getting frustrated with lack of first-team opportunities.
McAtee, whom football pundit Micah Richards called ‘exceptional’ on The Rest is Football podcast (December 2023), is a product of City’s academy. He has proved his abilities during his two loan stints at Sheffield United, making 22 goal contributions in 75 appearances across all competitions.
But after returning to City in the summer, McAtee has been limited to only two substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.
West Ham have been linked with an interest in the player, but they are also facing competition from Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Crystal Palace.
The Irons must act swiftly to beat the three Premier League clubs to the 22-year-old’s signature.
McAtee is very young and highly talented, who can be a big success in East London. He is looking for more first-team minutes, and the Hammers can give him that at their club.
