What Philippe Clement said that drew round of applause in Rangers AGM

Rangers boss Phillippe Clement faced some tough questions during the AGM on Thursday at the Clyde Auditorium.

This has been a dull campaign for the Gers so far, but the 6-0 win against Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Wednesday was one of the major positives.

Clement cracked a joke that he didn’t ask his players to put more effort ahead of the AGM, but he did face one strong question from a Rangers fan.

A lady asked him whether the victory against Derek McInnes’ side was an indication of a brighter period to come or if it was just another false dawn.

Clement responded to her by saying that Rangers always strive to win, and the day they lower the expectations, the club won’t be the same anymore.

“If you could be honest and tell us that what you’re expecting on the park,” she asked, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“Rather than us turning up at Ibrox with the expectations every week that we’re going to be reliving the glory days, if it’s not going to happen for a few years, please be honest and tell us.”

It drew a round of applause, and so did Clement’s response.

The Rangers boss said: “The legacy of Rangers is winning. The day we lower that bar, Rangers is not Rangers anymore. That’s my message for the dressing room. That’s what the new guys need to learn.”

Strong message from the Rangers boss

Rangers board have kept faith in Clement and they believe the Belgian boss can turn it around.

The Gers are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions, and they have won three games in a row.

It appears that finally, Rangers have found some sort of momentum, but it could be a false dawn as well.

Clement has failed to beat Celtic in five attempts so far, and if Rangers fail to beat the Bhoys once again next week in the League Cup final on 15 December, there is a possibility that he could be relieved of his duties.
